2024 SEC FOOTBALL FASHION
The market of women's sportwear is changing, and here are my predictions for the fall 2024 season.
WHATS CHANGING
The influence of the NFL
TAYLOR SWIFT, SIMONE BILES, AND ALIX EARLE are just a few of the leading ladies influencing football fashion. Looking back at their NFL gameday appearances, these women mix style with comfort in support of their respective teams.
Kristin Juszczyk has had a breakthrough in popularity and is making headlines for her recent licensing deal with the NFL. Juszczyk makes her designs reworking old sports gear including jerseys into new and exciting pieces, designing for A-listers included Taylor Swift, Simone Biles, and Brittany Mahomes.
Businesses like Distressed Merch are also making an impact on the sportswear scene, creating 100% unique "1 0f 1" pieces worn by Simone Biles and other celebrity athletes.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE SEC
WHAT I WANT TO SEE
Women wearing numbers. In previous years women are seen very rarely wearing numbers, or even sporting their team's logo. Most often, women lean towards the basic team colors for their gameday outfits. Examples below are from the fall 2023 football season.
This season I predict influence of the previous celebrities and designers mentioned. Mixing numbers, logos, and overall team loyalty into gameday fashion. Even in more subtle ways, as seen here by Juszczyk's designs.
The death of pink. Years prior, women's sportwear has been reduced to merchandise decorated with pink and sparkles. In the future seasons women are becoming more a part of the gameday conversations and audiences, that includes the development of fashion beyond typical stereotypes.
I want to see less of pink and sparkles, and more branded apparel in school colors marketed towards women.
Straight from the NFL:
Mini Skirts. Denim shorts will never go out of style, especially in the heat of the south. This season, however, I predict an increase in mini skirts paired with sports apparel.
Vintage Jackets. I predict an increase of vintage and branded jackets. These items add personality and style to any look, and adding this to a gameday outfit supports women's increased role in sports.
Black Boots. White boots have dominated the SEC gameday for the past few years. As fall approaches, I see a transition from the classic white boots and booties to black.
